MORE THAN HALF OF THE FISH
PROCESSED BY JEALSA IS FROM FIP FISHERIES.

In the period between October 2018 – September 2019 more than half (54%), of the tuna processed by Jealsa was caught by fishing vessels participating in comprehensive Fishery Improvement Projects of the fisheries where they operate (47% FIP A grade and 7% FIP C grade).

Jealsa, in an exercise of transparency and in compliance with its sustainability commitment, publicly reported its tuna purchases for the period between October 2018 – September 2019. More than half (54%) of the tuna processed by the company in those 12 months was caught by fishing vessels involved in what are called, comprehensive Fishery Improvement Projects (FIPs).

In addition, 5% of all processed tuna was MSC certified, the world’s most recognised sustainability standard.

Analysing the suppliers for that period, 26% were companies participating in the ISSF, 12% were Data Check Companies, (companies that, without being full members of the ISSF, comply with all the audit requirements demanded by the ISSF) and 24% came directly from shipowners.

At Jealsa we work every day to increase the purchase volumes of; MSC tuna, tuna caught by fishing vessels involved in robust Fishing Improvement Projects (FIPs), and the ISSF member companies or companies that abide by the resolutions of the ISSF.
